In my professional life, I am Professor of Psychology & Human Development at Vanderbilt University. My area of research is language processing and memory. In particular, I am interested in the study of interactive conversation. Much of my recent research examines memory for conversation, and the impact of traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's disease on language processing. This work has a variety of potential broader implications for management of communication and memory impairment, as well as for law.

I am the Editor of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: General and previously served as the President of the Society for Human Sentence Processing.
